The incredible Fall we saw on the Metolius has led right into a pretty awesome start to Winter angling for both Redsides and Bull Trout. For now there is very little snow on the ground up on the Met, which means we can fish all of our normal summer runs without worrying about road access. The standard Golden Stone/Mayfly Nymph combination has been the way to get into all the species right now in the Metolius, but dedicated streamer anglers are finding decent numbers of Big Bulls on slow, deep retrieves. If we see consistent cloudy weather and relatively warm days we’ll have good chances of finding fish sipping BWOs in back eddies and tailouts, which can be a blast when conditions are right. If things continue in the direction they’ve been going we should have a great winter on the consistent waters of the Metolius!
