The Inside Scoop

Out at Grindstone Lakes, you will find five lakes that range from 20-70 acres. The lakes are large and old and have a range of aquatic terrain. Each has rich insect life. And they all have giant trout! The fish are powerful rainbows ranging from 2 to over 10lbs. So when you hook one, hold on. Every angler could easily catch and release a dozen or more proper trophies, not that anyone is counting!

Grindstone Lakes is the perfect escape for a group outing, whether it’s family, friends, business associates, or all of the above! There are comfortable accommodations for up to 12 people, a great staff of fly fishing guides and cooks, and everything you need to make you feel at home. There’s also more than enough space to allow that special sense of exploration and discovery. It is a place for all of us to find our inner child.

When is the best time of the year for Grindstone Lakes?

The ranch opens based access, usually in the mid-spring. The roads in and around the lakes need to be clear of snow and deep mud before the ranch will allow trucks in. But once access is granted its game on! The lakes fish awesome early season all the way through mid-summer when the water warms and the ranch closes to protect the fish. Then again in the fall the lakes fish really good.

How much does it cost to fish there?

The expense for fishing the Grindstone Lakes varies on the size of your group. All bookings are for three days and you must be accompanied by guides while on the property. The larger the group you bring, the less expensive it is per-person. Just call the shop for availability and cost. For guns, bring your favorite shotguns for all winged hunts and clays. Rifles work great for Sage Rats and Coyote.
