The fishing is picking up on east. The brown trout are getting aggressive and territorial as they push into shallower water to get ready for the spawn. The Kokanee are colored up in full spawning mode along the edges of the lake in groups of 5 to 50, often trailed by a few persistent trout looking for any eggs or otherwise to clean up. I was up there last week, fishing a large articulated streamer most of the day with plenty of follows and a handful of grabs. Casting to or along the bank with a full sinking line and a fast retrieve was working to get fish active and chasing and a nice pause with the fly can trigger them to commit. Indicator rigs have also been working with a classic balanced leech suspended below either a small midge or mayfly nymph. A few of the cascade lakes closed as of November 1st, Crane Prairie Reservoir, Wickiup Reservoir and Odell lake are all closed for the season but as for the lakes still open this can be one of the best times of the year to be out on the water and target some bigger fish.
