Lakes Update September 27th, 2024
September 27, 2024
Hosmer Lake has been a standout destination recently, providing anglers with excellent fishing opportunities. For those heading there, it's crucial to pack a variety of flies. Essential patterns should include leeches, damsel nymphs, soft hackles, and various chironomids, particularly in the blood worm stage. Scuds and water boatman are also effective choices. For surface fishing, small to mid-size chubbies, beetles, and ants are recommended, especially near reed lines where fish tend to feed. East Lake, while not at the top of the list, has shown some success with balanced leeches, damsels, and chironomids. However, callibaetis hatches have slowed significantly. A change of pace with patterns like beetles and ants can yield results. Stripping small buggers or baitfish patterns is also productive, especially in the early morning or late evening. Three Creeks Lake is holding its own, and now is a great time to explore this location. Stripping small streamers and using suspended flies like balanced leeches and chironomids under an indicator have been effective strategies. For topwater action, darker callibaetis and black dancer caddis are making an appearance, providing exciting opportunities for anglers. Paulina Lake offers similar fishing conditions, with options like scuds, ice cream cones, beetles, and two-bits performing well. Anglers are likely to encounter varying conditions from day to day, so versatility in fly selection is key to maximizing success. As the fall season progresses, these lakes continue to present enjoyable fishing experiences. With the right preparation and fly choices, anglers can look forward to productive days on the water.
