The Crooked has been fishing well, and while there is still a fair amount of algae and vegetation in the water the fishing has been much more consistent than it was earlier this summer. There has been good opportunity to fish dries in the early mornings and evenings, primarily with PMDs and Caddis. During the day nymphing is the best way to find fish. A light indicator rig with two flies will produce fish consistently. We are finding fish in many of the deeper runs and holes, as well as in the faster riffles. Using a little split shot to get flies near the bottom is the best presentation, but due to the amount of algae that accumulates on the flies as they bounce along the rocks some are choosing for a shallow presentation in the middle portion of the water column and still finding fish. Flows dropped slightly earlier this week to 267CFS, and we’re in the prime window as far as water levels go for finding good numbers of fish.
