PMDs On The Crooked

PMDs On The Crooked

The Crooked is a solid go-to for those looking to get into some consistent fishing without too much of a drive. There is opportunity to fish dries, nymphs, or small streamers with reasonable expectation for success. The best dry fly activity has been a mid-day PMD hatch that typically starts late morning and continues into the mid-afternoon. Any day with consistent cloud cover will usually produce an even stronger hatch. Fishing a single dry or a dry dropper with an emerger or soft hackle behind a PMD adult will produce great action throughout the hatch. When the fish aren’t looking towards the surface, a double nymph rig with a size 16 Hare’s Ear or something of the sort followed by a Midge or Small Mayfly nymph will get the job done. For those looking to change things up and swing or strip a small streamer try an olive or brown Wooly Bugger or Slump Buster.
