With warmer weather in the forecast it is time to start thinking about the excellent lake fishing here in Central Oregon. It will most likely take a few weeks before the water warms up and the lakes come into their prime, but there is plenty of good fishing to be had in the meantime. North Twin is fishing fairly well, typically improving as the day goes on. The fish become more active and begin to feed more consistently once the sun has been on the water for a while, so there is no need to get up too early just yet.
Fishing chironomid patterns fairly shallow beneath an indicator has been the most consistent way to find fish. Good patterns include red or black chirono cones, yankee buzzers, and ice cream cones in sizes 14-18. Fishing wooly buggers and leech patterns has also been effective. Start slow and use various retrieves until you find one the fish like.
