Metolius Update

Metolius Update

The Metolius has continued to fish well. We aren’t seeing quite the numbers or varieties of insects that graced the Metolius’ waters through September, but there are still plenty of Mayflies and Caddis around to turn fish towards the surface when conditions are right. PMDs and BWOs are the primary Mayflies for now, and there are some small Caddis mixed in with the big Octobers we are starting to see. Fish will eat an October Caddis dry opportunistically, and big orange pupa patterns are starting to get consistent attention from the big Redsides of the Met. As always, the key with a nymph rig is to get flies down quickly towards the bottom, utilize big October Caddis and Stonefly patterns as well as split shot to get flies in front of fish.

We’ve been getting good reports as far as the Bull trout fishing goes. They’ll eat a nymph occasionally but the best way to target them is with the big streamers. Olive and white are favorite colors, throw them as big as you can!
