The Metolius River is buzzing with activity this fall. While the Green Drake hatch is gone, PMDs, Mahogany Duns, BWOs, and October Caddis remain prevalent. It's important to note that the section above Allingham Bridge is now closed until May 22. However, downstream from Allingham Bridge, which remains open year-round, anglers can still find the same hatches continuing into the canyon, around Bridge 99, and in the hatchery area, providing excellent fishing opportunities as we transition into winter.
For nymphing enthusiasts, caddis pupae, Perdigons, Egan’s Frenchies, and golden stonefly nymphs are proving effective. As kokanee begin their migration, rainbows are actively feeding on drifting eggs, making egg patterns a smart choice.
For targeting Bull Trout, larger streamers like Dolly Llamas are effective, especially in the early hours. Additionally, euro jigs and smaller jig streamers are also proving to be successful. Happy fishing!
