Metolius River Update

Metolius River Update

Green Drakes are out in decent numbers on the Metolius. The strength of the hatch will vary day to day, but it has become more consistent in the past week. Look for the bugs to start coming off around noon and to be present through most of the afternoon. Cover water and watch for pockets of rising fish, as they will key in on surface flies at different points throughout the day as the hatch progresses in different areas of the river. In the mornings, late evenings, and other times of the day when fish are not looking up nymphing has been productive. Fishing a Golden Stone or small Stonefly pattern followed by a Mayfly emerger or Caddis Pupa has been producing good numbers. As always, make sure to use flourocarbon tippet and appropriate weight to get flies down to the fish. White streamers seem to provide the best opportunity for finding big Bulls!
