Metolius River Update

Metolius River Update

Things haven’t slowed down a bit on the Metolius. While it is one of the more challenging rivers in the area to find success on, those with the skills and knowledge to find the elusive native Rainbows the river’s crystal cold waters hold have seen unmatched consistency on the Metolius for several months. The overcast weather and rain that came in last week really pushed some great PMD hatches and even produced a few Green Drakes. A couple of guys from the shop fished it hard last weekend and found good numbers of fish on dries throughout the afternoon and had a number of Green Drake eats in a short window right around 3. Nymphing has also been consistent with Golden Stones, Mayfly nymphs of various sizes, and Caddis pupa. The resident Bulls are always on the prowl for a meal so be aware of the potential to hook one when nymphing for trout, or get out and target them specifically with a big streamer or indicator set up on a heavier rod.
