Lower Deschutes Update September 13th, 2024

The Lower Deschutes is still doing great! While dry fly action has tapered off a bit, nymphing is still going strong. I’ve been having good luck with tungsten flies—Flashback PT’s, Copper John’s, Prince Nymphs, and Perdigons are my top picks right now. If you’re up for some fun, try swinging leeches, sculpin, or crayfish streamers. It’s a great way to target those more aggressive fish. Steelhead are making their way up the river. They’re mostly hanging out in the lower stretches around Maupin and down,  but they’re still slowly moving upstream. If you’re thinking about a trip, now’s the time to start planning for the next couple weeks  especially if you want to meet the steelhead up higher in the day stretch.
