Lower Deschutes Update June 21, 2024

The Lower Deschutes continues to fish well. Caddis have become a prominent food source for the trout and hatches have been thick almost every evening. Yellow Sallies will be the last stoneflies around and may continue to hatch for a few weeks. PMDs, BWOs, and Green Drakes have also been reported and should be in your box if you are headed that way. A double dry fly rig with a yellow sally as the front fly and a small caddis or mayfly trailer is very fun and gives the fish a couple options. Nymphing during non hatch times has been excellent on purple perdigons, eggs, hares ears, pheasant tails, duracells, and nitro caddis. Swinging around leeches, sculpin, or crayfish patterns is always fun on the Lower as well. The Lower is a great choice right now as the salmonfly crowds have left and the fishing is good.
