East and Paulina Lake have both been fishing well. Leeches, two-bits, dark and light assassins, and chironomids all picked up fish in 6-12’ of water. Stripping larger brown or gold baitfish patterns to imitate tui chubs is a good way to target larger class brown trout in these lakes. Ants, beetles and hoppers are also fun this time of year in the Newberry Crater and make excellent flies for hanging a nymph or two below. Wickiup has picked up a bit and we got some good reports on leeches and chironomids as well as some fish coming up for chubby chernobyls, not accessible currently with the round butte fire going on though so hopefully they are able to stomp that out quickly. Both Twin Lakes have been fishing well on leeches and chironomids but also in close proximity to the Round Butte Fire. Hosmer is fishing well on leeches, chironomids and especially damsels both nymphs and dries. Better to hit hosmer early AM or last few hours of the day as it is a very popular sightseeing lake. Good reports from lava in the shop this week on leeches and two-bits, fish are fairly deep. Callibaetis are showing up in many of these locations in greater numbers so don’t forget them at home!
