East Lake Update

East Lake Update

Fishing on East Lake has been fair to good. Some days are better than others but overall there are good numbers of fish being caught. Chironomids and other nymphs below an indicator have been producing fish, and retrieving leech patterns and wooly buggers should also provide some action. It’s still a little early for any consistent callibaetis or dry fly fishing up high, but we should start to see increases in bug activity in the next couple of weeks! Fish have been concentrated in the South and East portions of the lake, with many of the Rainbows making their attempts to spawn (which are not successful, essentially it is a false spawn). Look for fish to begin to spread out with the progression of spring, but the areas around the boat ramps remain a good place to begin the day in hopes of finding fish right away.

Suggested Flies: Black, Red, or Olive Zebra Midge #16-18, Dark Assassin #16-18, Bird’s Nest Hare’s Ear #16-18, Pheasant Tail #16-18, Prince Nymph #16-18, Olive or Black Wooly Bugger #10-12, Olive or Black BH Mini Leech #12
