The Crooked has continued to fish as it has been, with nymphing being the most productive method throughout the day, there has been opportunity to throw dries in the late afternoon and through the evening. Flows and water temperatures are good, and there are great numbers of fish in the Crooked as always. We prefer to fish a light two-fly rig, with a size 14-18 microstone or Mayfly nymph trailed by a smaller baetis or Midge pattern in size 18-22, the black Winker’s Midge has been a favorite as of late. Decent numbers of Mayflies and Caddis in the evenings will provide the best opportunity to throw dry flies, attractor Mayfly patterns like the Purple Haze have been tough to beat. For those looking to change things up, there is always plenty of opportunity to fish or swing small streamers and leech patterns. There are some bigger fish around on the Crooked this year, and there are pleasant surprises for those who put in the time.

Suggested Nymphs: Black Winker’s Midge #18-22, Black or Purple Zebra Midge #18-22, Tailwater Tiny #18-22, Soft Hackle Pheasant Tail #14-20, Brown Super Sinker #16-20, Tan or Olive Sparkle Pupa #16-18, Olive Soft Hackle #16-18, Hare’s Ear #14-18, Copper Microstone #14-18, Anato-May #16-22
