The Lower Deschutes continues to fish well. Nymphing has been best for all times of the day with the best dry fly opportunities coming early and late in the day. Caddis have been hatching and include october caddis, mid sized olive and gray caddis, and small black caddis. An october caddis nymph is a great option this time of year trailed by an assortment of other small nymphs including copper johns, pheasant tails, eggs, jig leeches, and duracells. The majority of steelhead have been picked up in the camp stretch but we have seen some fish landed higher up as well and they have been caught using traditional swinging methods as well as nymphing. If you catch a wild steelhead, please leave it in the water and release it quickly.
