Lower Deschutes Report 7/9/21

The Lower Deschutes has seen some decent fishing despite the heat. The forecast still looks really hot down there. Hoot-Owl regulations are still in effect for the river below Sherars Falls. Be sure to check the myodfw.com website for details and updates on emergency regulations. The best fishing has been in the evenings. Caddis hatches have been strong and pale morning duns can be found here and there. If the fish aren’t rising, caddis pupa would be my first choice, either dead drifted or swung. Mayfly nymphs have been working well, especially PMD nymphs. Stonefly nymphs can work well as a searching pattern. Jigged euro style flies always seem to be productive no matter what the specific conditions are. Land and release fish as fast as possible while it remains warmer than normal. Please be prepared for the heat down there, there is very little relief.
