There are a lot of fish hanging around in the Fall right now, with plenty of large fish in the mix to keep things exciting. That being said, the fish have been in the system for a quite some time at this point and the fishing has been inconsistent. Fish are grouped together for the most part, and there are good numbers around all of the usual access points. There most consistent feeding activity has been through an afternoon midge hatch, but expect to use very small flies and put in time to find a fish that will mistake an emerger pattern for its natural counterpart. A light nymph set up with a small indicator will produce fish sporadically throughout the day. We’ve seen most of our success on small Midge or Baetis patterns, but bright and flashy attractor patterns are getting interest as well. It’s a little bit of a weird time on the Fall right now but an abundance of opportunities to sight fish large Rainbows will surely get the heart rate up.
