The Crooked has been fishing very well. The water levels have been stable over the past week and the action on dry flies and nymphs has been excellent. We have been seeing less of the blue wing olive hatch and more of the pale morning duns, especially on warmer days. Around this time of year, large caddis hatches start occurring. Most of them will be size 14 - 16 in olive or tan. Midge hatches are consistent in the mornings and evenings. The best subsurface patterns are midges, PMD and BWO nymphs, scuds and caddis pupa. Indicator tactics are great for covering water, Euro tactics can clean up in pools where fish stack up. Now that terrestrials are out and about, try fishing a small chubby with a nymph dropper rig.
