Crane Prairie Report 8/20/21

Crane Prairie has been seeing decent fishing. The algae and warm waters should start to subside. Every day in the forecast shows low temperatures below 50 degrees up at Crane, which is excellent news. As water temperatures cool we can expect fish to get a bit more active and the hatches may also pick up. In the meantime, fish are still channeled up. Callibaetis hatches have been decent in the afternoons. Terrestrials work great as a searching pattern or as a bobber. Nymphing has been most productive with chironomids, balanced leeches, callibaetis, dark assassins, and midge patterns. Size 14 - 18 seems to be the sweet spot for most nymphs, aside from midges. Currently, it’s still a bit warm to be fishing the waters where damselfly nymphs are most productive. The fishing will improve by a lot if the below-average temperatures continue, a bit of rain would be excellent as well.
