For the Ultimate Private Lake Fly-fishing Experience, there are really only a handful of locations. The Grindstone Lakes, Central Oregon is certainly one of them. What sets the great ones apart is a series of criteria: remoteness, dramatic beauty, quality of the fishery, comfortable lodging and skilled staff. Grindstone Lakes has each of these elements covered. But the significant, intangible aspect is how you feel when you’re there. This is where Grindstone Lakes is truly in a league of its own. There aren’t words for the emotions when floating a 50-acre lake, just you and a group of your favorite people, sun on your shoulders, amongst seemingly endless acres of wilderness, or a seven-pound trout making its way quickly into your backing. You’ll just have to come live the moment!  To learn what you can expect on a trip to this magnificent private fly fishing ranch, read on!

Grindstone Lakes is located deep within the GI Ranch in Central Oregon. A great part of your adventure will be the remarkably vast land you’ll travel through to reach your destination. Once out amongst the tens of thousands of uninhabited acres you will begin to sense what a tremendous place Grindstone Lakes is. Aside from your guides and hosts you might see a cow wrangler or two and perhaps nobody else. . . for days. It’s out there that the meaning of “privacy” is defined!

You will have access to five lakes ranging from 20-70 acres. Each private fishing lake provides different scenery and opportunities for a variety of tactics. Whether you enjoy stripping leech patterns, retrieving nymphs, hanging chironomids under indicators or casting dries, at some point on your trip, each will be effective. The lakes, while man-made, are old and feel as though they are meant to be there. Being established, each has rich insect life, is deep enough to remain cool through the summer and hold truly huge trout. The fish at Grindstone Lakes are legendary, ranging from 2 pounds up to double-digits. The average beautiful rainbow is 3-6lbs. These are healthy fish that give you all you can handle. Deeply bent rods and shrieking reels are the norm at Grindstone Lakes.
