The Metolius is shaping up nicely for this time of year, the river is a little high, but what can you expect, we got pounded this winter and water will be coming off the Cascades for some time. Fish however seem to be in all the likely spots, especially in pools and eddies. Many fish are coming from Golden Stone imitations as these big bugs are getting ready to hatch. Other productive Met flies are Micro May Flies, Rainbow Warriors, and Midge patterns.

As for surface fishing, we are seeing good numbers of PMD’s, BWO’s and many small Caddis throughout the afternoons and evenings. We also are approaching that time when the Green Drakes start coming out, and boy do trout love these bugs. The main hatch is late May-June but its not uncommon to see a few early hatches as the weather improves so keep your eye out.
