Central Oregon Rivers: The Central Oregon
Region is blessed with numerous blue ribbon rivers
for your fly fishing adventure. The Deschutes River, Fall River,
Metolius River and Crooked River make the Central Oregon Region
a Mecca for the fly fishing enthusiast.
The main drainage for the region is the Deschutes River, a
premier northwest trout and steelhead fishery. The Deschutes
River begins its 252 mile journey to the Columbia River at its
headwaters, Little Lava Lake. From Little Lava Lake the
Deschutes River creates the trophy trout fisheries of Crane
Prairie Reservoir and Wickiup Reservoir. From Wickiup Reservoir
the Deschutes River passes through one of Central Oregon most
popular destination resorts, Sunriver Oregon, and on through the
town of Bend Oregon. Both of these communities provide excellent
accommodations for your adventure in fly fishing Central Oregon.
Fall
River, a pristine spring-fed high mountain stream, enters the
Deschutes River a few miles below Wickiup Reservoir. Open and
fishable year round, Fly Fishing Fall River runs clear and cold
and has been designated fly fishing only. Metolius River, also a
spring-fed stream, enters the Deschutes River through Lake Billy
Chinook. The headwaters of Metolius River flow year round from
the base of Black Butte. This beautiful river is one of Central
Oregon fly fishing’s most challenging rivers to fish. The
section of the river within the Camp Sherman area is designated
fly fishing only. The Crooked River, a classic tail water
fishery, also enters the Deschutes River through Lake Billy
Chinook. The most productive and accessible part fly fishing
Crooked River is the seven miles below Bowman Dam. The Crooked
River is open and accessible year round. Redside Rainbow Trout,
Brown Trout, Brook Trout, Bull Trout and strong Deschutes Summer
Steelhead are the species to target on these gorgeous Central
Oregon Rivers.
